Why Chronic Joint Pain Doesn’t Heal On Its Own

Many chronic shoulder, neck, upper back, and joint problems are not simply caused by inflammation or tight muscles. In many cases, the deeper issue is weakened ligaments and tendons that no longer stabilize the joint properly.

When a joint loses support, the body often responds by tightening nearby muscles and changing movement patterns to protect the area. This can lead to recurring pain, tension, headaches, stiffness, and symptoms that keep returning no matter how much stretching, massage, or rest you try.

Ligaments and tendons are the structures that help hold joints in proper alignment and guide healthy movement. When they become overstretched, injured, or weakened through repetitive strain, sports injuries, falls, aging, poor posture, hormonal changes, or previous trauma, the joint may begin to move with less precision.

The nervous system senses this instability and often recruits surrounding muscles to guard and compensate. Over time, those compensation patterns can create pain far beyond the original source of the problem.

This is why many people experience only temporary relief from treatments focused solely on muscles or inflammation.

Prolotherapy is designed to address that deeper structural issue by stimulating the body’s natural repair response where connective tissue has lost integrity—helping restore stability, reduce compensation, and support lasting relief without surgery.

SI Joint / Sacrum Instability

Low back pain, pelvic imbalance, hip discomfort, sciatica-like symptoms, or pain that moves into the leg may sometimes begin in the SI joint and sacrum.

When the pelvis loses stability, the body often compensates through the low back, hips, glutes, and legs. This can create pain patterns that feel confusing and frustrating because the symptoms may appear far from the true source.

The sacroiliac (SI) joints connect the spine to the pelvis and play a major role in transferring force between the upper body and legs. These joints depend heavily on strong ligaments for stability.

When those ligaments become weakened or damaged, movement can become excessive or uneven. Nearby nerves may become irritated, gait mechanics may change, and surrounding muscles may tighten to protect the area.

Patients may experience chronic low back pain, pelvic shifting, instability while walking, leg weakness, recurrent sciatica, or pain that returns despite repeated short-term treatment.

Prolotherapy uses precise regenerative injections into weakened ligament attachments to stimulate healing, strengthen support structures, and help restore healthier pelvic mechanics so movement can feel more natural again.

Knee Instability & Compensation

Knee pain does not always stay in the knee. When stabilizing tissues weaken, the body often recruits muscles above and below the joint to help protect it.

This may lead to recurring knee pain, tight quads or hamstrings, calf tension, hip discomfort, altered walking mechanics, and reduced confidence on stairs or uneven ground.

The knee relies on healthy ligaments, tendons, and balanced joint mechanics to handle daily movement. When those stabilizing tissues are compromised through injury, overuse, degeneration, or repetitive stress, the body frequently shifts load into surrounding muscles and neighboring joints.

That compensation can create symptoms in the hips, IT band, calves, ankles, or low back while the original driver remains unresolved.

Many patients focus only on the painful area, but long-term relief often comes from restoring proper structural support.

Prolotherapy is designed to strengthen weakened connective tissue, improve joint stability, reduce chronic compensation patterns, and help patients return to walking, climbing stairs, exercise, and everyday movement with greater comfort.

Patient Questions & Care Options

Many treatments may include 2–5 supportive modalities depending on your condition and goals.

These may include acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, Chinese herbs, bodywork, acupressure, movement guidance, or other supportive therapies recommended by Dr. Aaron.

Each visit is individualized to help you receive the most effective care possible.

Every person and condition is different.

Some patients experience relief quickly, while chronic or long-standing conditions often require a series of treatments to create lasting change.

Traditionally, care is given more consistently at first, followed by reassessment and a customized maintenance plan if needed.

Dr. Aaron can help guide the right treatment frequency for your specific goals.

Much of modern healthcare begins after symptoms appear.

Preventative care focuses on supporting balance before stress becomes illness or pain.

Regular acupuncture, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Chinese herbs, movement practices, and healthy lifestyle habits may help improve resilience, recovery, and long-term wellness.

Taking care of your body consistently often saves time, money, and suffering later.

Oriental Medicine views the body as an interconnected system of energy, circulation, structure, and function.

When flow becomes blocked or imbalanced, discomfort and symptoms may develop.

Treatment aims to address root patterns rather than only suppress symptoms—helping the body restore balance and heal more naturally.

This approach may also include guidance for sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, and lifestyle habits.

Consistency is often more powerful than intensity.

Small regular steps—such as acupuncture, bodywork, herbs, movement, breathwork, or simple wellness routines—can create meaningful long-term results.

Preventative care helps you stay ahead of stress rather than always recovering from it.

Patients who know they want ongoing care may benefit from multi-session punch passes.

It has many underlying causes, from arthritis, tendonitis, sciatica pain, back and hip pain, knee, ankle, foot and toe pain, shoulder, neck, arm pain to wrist, hand, finger pain and more. Finding out and understanding the root causes of the pain is key. It requires deep-level knowledge and multi-faceted skillset. Dr. Nickamin’s unique approach of diagnosing and identifying the root cause is grounded in thousands of years old Oriental Medicine and his continuous out of school studies. Chronic pain treatment from East meets West Preventative Medicine in Sarasota are all natural therapies, promoting body’s natural healing.

Acupoint Injection therapies (AIT): AIT are used when regular acupuncture fails to provide the desired results or is deemed to be ineffective for the specific problem. AIT means the injection of herbs, homeopathics, and other nutritional supplements in the form of sterile substances into acupuncture points/original site of the pain caused by acute or chronic injury or inflamation, to promote, maintain, and restore health and to prevent disease.

Acupuncture: an ancient healing art that restores the smooth flow of Qi (vital body energy) & promotes the circulation of blood, that creates systemic balance, reduces pain and prevent illness.

Jin Shin Jyutsu: an ancient healing art that works similart to acupuncture, but without needles. It removes Qi/energy blockage by using hands-on flow patterns, to release pain and illness, resulting in deep relaxation and restored energy.

Neoclassical Pulse Diagnosis: thousands of years old art to obtain more information from the body that is “unseen” by modern machines, to uncover the underlying root causes of pain and illness.

Koren Specific Technque: a biomechanical correction to the body, that is gentle but powerfully effective.

Nasal Release Technique is a powerful structural technique that adjusts the bones of the skull. This was developed by Dr. J. R. Stober of Portland. The procedure uses a small finger cot affixed to an inflatable device which is inserted into the nasal passages. The balloon inflation presses outward against the bones lining the breathing passages and adjusts the sutures of the skull, particularly the sphenoid. This ultimately relieves the forces that have gone into the skull by releasing any impactions in the cranial sutures. For more information: conquerconcussion.com

Dr. Aaron’s work blends Oriental Medicine, orthopedic evaluation, pulse diagnosis, and modern regenerative therapies to identify the deeper causes of pain, discomfort, or imbalance. Rather than focusing on symptoms alone, he looks at the whole picture—structural, physical, internal, and energetic—to create treatments tailored to each individual.

His approach recognizes that what appears as a single issue may have multiple contributing factors. For example, back pain may involve joint instability, muscle and tendon compensation, constipation, kidney deficiency, or subtle energetic imbalance. Depending on the patient and the condition, he may use two to five modalities in a single treatment plan.

Dr. Nickamin is known for thoughtful, highly personalized care grounded in Neo-Classical and Jin Shin Jyutsu pulse diagnosis, along with orthopedic physical examination. His goal is to identify the root cause of illness, discomfort, or pain rather than chasing symptoms alone.

He specializes in orthopedic pain using Acupoint Injection Therapies, including BMAC, PRP, nerve hydrodissection, prolotherapy, neural and perineural therapies, Chinese herbal injections, and biopuncture.

His work also includes Chinese visceral lymphatic drainage, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Chinese tuina, moxibustion, guasha, Chinese herbal medicine, women’s health, pediatrics, and natural support for vitality and healing.
